Not as many robots this week. Doctor's orders.
Instead, I found some pretty cool stuff that falls under web culture.
Some cool tools that will make it easier to find images and music. Plus some good learning games with a retro feel.
I signed up to another awesome newsletter...yes, I know. But I stand by my record when it comes to newsletters.
A few dev and design articles that inspired me a little bit.
Finally, a bunch of cool things about the near future, and outer space.
📰 From the Newsroom
NASA is bringing cryosleep chambers out of fiction.
That's nice, but I still want to see the Judge Dreed sleep machine. 10 minutes for a full night's sleep. I'd argue that 98% of people would agree with me.
🕸️ The Cool Side of the Web
Philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein invented the emoji. 👁️🗨️💭
I hate to admit this, but whenever I hear Wittgenstein I think:
Well, the evening began at the gentlemen's club where we were discussing Wittgenstein over a game of backgammon.
On the subject of language, it turns out that in 8/9 languages nouns will cause more people to stumble than any other part of speech. Pretty interesting results based on multiple, genuinely diverse languages.
Using the Twitter API to create The Longest Poem in the World where each line = a tweet.
“How is Starbucks at the airport not open yet?????”
“Take me back to the night we met”
⚒️ Tools and Resources
Vim's steep learning curve is made little easier with PacVim. Learn the commands. Pac Man style.
Mattias Endler has written about his personal Vim experience on his blog. If you're interested in getting started, then Endler is a great place to begin.
👩💻 Misc Tech
New soft robotic skin automatically heals itself, even if you shoot it full of holes.
Of course, your organs would still be _______ destroyed.
Try and fix those Mr Robot Man.
👩🚀 Space
The first luxury hotel in space charging just $9.5m per trip.
Love the artist's rendering which has someone watching tv.
There could be a 9th planet in our solar system. Deep, deep in the space. 🌌
I really enjoyed the sinister language they use in this article: lurk, ghost planet, hidden.
Planet 9 is so far away that it would take 10,000 - 20,000 years to complete one rotation of the sun.
Say what you will about Pluto, but it gets the orbit done in 248 years.
NASA's Tess spacecraft embarks on quest to find new planets.
At first, I thought Elon Musk was the futuristic technology they were talking about.
I thought there was a conspiracy theory suggesting he was an alien, but I could only find this jokey piece on the subject.
Outro
Well that's all for this week. I am going to enjoy the rest of the week off and sleep train my son.
