Heya,
Contemporary headlines feel scarier than anything I grew up with, so I decided to just look for cool things this week. I found some awesome animations and a cool DIY photo to art website.
There is also the usual round-up of great tools which includes two tools for finding other tools. I also found some great learning tools, WordPress optimizations, and, finally, and addictive game to help you get to 5 o'clock.
Enjoy,
Chris.
đ¸ī¸ The Cool Side of the Web
Playgrounds is a collection of gorgeous animated loops of self-contained worlds. Created for brands, loved by humans. đ
I also want to include this one of Godzilla and King Kong dancing to 'Going up the country' by Canned Heat. Best thing I saw on the internet this week.
Animated summary of Crime and Punishment. âī¸
When I was a kid not only did I have to walk to school through the desert, in a coal sack, but I had to read Cliff's Notes for Crime and Punishment. No Sparknotes, no animations, just good ol' fashioned commitment.
âī¸ Tools and Resources
A bunch of testing tools for your websites. â
They are either free or have a free tier that offers you a good range of options. You will need to scroll down the page to see something new, but it is definitely a site you need dangling from your toolbelt.
Versus: Find alternatives.
A great way to find alternatives to the tools you're using because society dictates you should.
Zdog is a very good tool for simple 3D animations. đĨŋ
I love tools like this because you can make something cool with relative ease. 3D engines can be frightening for casual users but Zdog makes it easy.
Strange Creature II: The Colony.
A mesmerizing bit of code that lets you drag some trippy tendrils around the screen. Soon to be a motion picture.
Shadow made in Three.js is so cool.
Sonic also made in Three.js which is better than the proposed movie.
đĨ World of WordPress
Last week I shamelessly promoted our new WordPress theme.
This week, we're releasing the Pro add-on. If you click through on Thursday, 13th June, and you can get it for free.
Outro
And that's the end of that chapter.
If you ever find a film clip of dancing monsters, then you know I want it. You can harrass me on Twitter with your favorites.
If you have a friend who looks cool websites, then feel free to forward this email to them.
If you received this via a forward, then you can join the team here any time of the day or night.
Have a great week,
Chris.
